P-Mike Leake
Young? Check. Not a light of mileage on arm? Check. No draft pick compensation? Check. How hasn’t this guy not found a team yet? Mike Leake still hasn’t found a team.
He won’t be returning to the San Francisco Giants after they added Jeff Samardzija and Johnny Cueto in free agency. How about his hometown Arizona Diamondbacks? They’ve already added Zack Greinke and Shelby Miller this off-season to their rotation, so why not right?
Apparently the Diamondbacks don’t have room for him. The Nationals didn’t want him. Someone is going to grab Leake sooner rather than later.
Leake was just 11-10 with a 3.70 ERA. He only struck out 119 in 192 innings. The one thing he does do is not walk people. He only walks a little over two batters per nine innings.
In an era of a power pitcher, Leake doesn’t fit the profile. However, it doesn’t mean that he can’t be a good pickup for a team.
Leake is just 28 years old, in a time when teams are valuing arms in their 20’s the most. Even though the Dodgers added Hisashi Iwakuma, it would still make some sense for them to add Leake. They certainly have the money to spend.
Maybe Leake is pricing himself too high than what teams value him. For whatever the reason, he is still out there, however, with Cueto now off the board, I don’t think Leake will be without a home for long.
