Week 14 Most Valuable Player

Russell Wilson, QB Seattle Seahawks

Before we dive deep into this, you can’t go wrong with either Wilson or Cam Newton in this spot. Newton was utterly fantastic in lighting up the Falcons in a lopsided win, and if not for the massive cushion on the scoreboard, his numbers likely would have been even more impressive. Still, we’re riding with Wilson for the benefit of the Week 14 MVP, and he is certainly deserving.

Wilson completed 23 of his 32 pass attempts in the game for 292 yards, and that would be relatively impressive in its own right. However, the 27-year-old quarterback separated himself by connecting on five (!) touchdown passes in the game, and in the past four weeks, Wilson has accumulated 16 touchdowns without issuing a single interception.

This is, of course, a single-week award, and Wilson’s performance definitely stacks up even when evaluated on its own. He was able to consistently buy time before connecting on difficult throws, and even with the caveat that Baltimore’s defense is not particularly good, the ease in which Wilson appeared to operate was stunning.

Wilson isn’t the best player, or even the best quarterback, in the NFL right now, but he was near perfect against Baltimore in leading his team to another victory.

Runner-up: Cam Newton, QB Carolina Panthers
