Round 4: CB Fabian Moreau

The Arizona Cardinals secondary has been very good this season, thanks to a combination of Patrick Peterson, Tyrann Mathieu, Tony Jefferson, Rashad Johnson and Justin Bethel. Safety Deone Bucannon has played more of an inside linebacker role for the team, but has done well in coverage too. One big off-season issue the Cardinals are going to have to address is locking up all of their secondary. The team just signed Justin Bethel to an extension, and now they have Jerraud Powers as a free agent and Tony Jefferson as a restricted free agent. Powers hasn’t been too particularly good for the Cardinals this season. Should someone overpay, he might be allowed to walk, as they will have to be careful with every dime they spend.

The problem with the secondary, if there is any, is that they are very thin at the cornerback position. Right now it’s just Peterson, Bethel, Powers and Corey White. That means there exists the possibility that Peterson and Bethel are the only cornerbacks on the roster going into the off-season, save for Mathieu, who occasionally plays the nickel. The team will need to add another cornerback in the draft, and that in the fourth round could be Fabian Moreau of UCLA. He’s a longer corner like the Cardinals like, and with experience could maybe grow into the role of a second cornerback on the depth chart. The Cardinals will need depth and this is a perfect spot in the draft to address their need at the position.
