Round 5: RB Kenyan Drake

In 2014, the Arizona Cardinals lost Andre Ellington to injury and weren’t prepared for the fallout of his injury. In 2015, the team prepared themselves by drafting David Johnson and signing Chris Johnson as a free agent. While the latter got hurt, and it doesn’t seem likely he will be back, the younger Johnson, David, has been a great draft pick for the Cardinals. He is a big running back, but he also has tremendous speed and can make spectacular catches. With him and hopefully a healthy Andre Ellington, the Cardinals have a couple of really good running backs.

The problem for the Cardinals is that Ellington can’t stay healthy and on the field. That’s why they should follow the same strategy as last year, and add another back in the draft. The running back they should target in the fifth round of the draft is Alabama running back Kenyan Drake. While starter Derrick Henry will be the hot commodity, Drake will be a great mid-round option for teams looking to add another young running back. He’s got size and can make some big plays happen with his legs, and has considerably less mileage and wear and tear than Henry. Adding him and making a trio of Johnson, Ellington and Drake, would instantly give the Cardinals one of the more exciting running back cores that the team can look forward to.
