High Salary D

P.K. Subban-Montreal Canadiens ($6,000): Subban has really struggled lately and has just two points in his last seven games. However, one of those points was picked up Tuesday night against San Jose when he got an assist. He leads the Canadiens in ice time, meaning that there are ample opportunities for Subban to put up fantasy points. He does have 22 points on the season and could start to heat up at any moment.

Roman Josi-Nashville Predators ($6,700): Josi has blossomed into a very useful fantasy defenseman. He has 22 points so far and has put up eight points in his last eight games. He does face a very tough matchup with St. Louis tonight, a team ranked second against defensemen. However, he’ll be relied on heavily to provide offense for the Predators in an important game. There are a lot of choices at defenseman tonight, and with the tough matchup, Josi could have low ownership. That’s good if you decide to take a chance at deploy him.

High Value D

Marc-Edouard Vlasic-San Jose Sharks ($4,000): The San Jose defenseman missed a week with a lower body injury but made his return to the ice this past weekend. Vlasic is not a huge offensive threat, but he has a salary that puts him in the value category and could be a sleeper play tonight. He gets solid time on the ice and has 11 points in 27 games. Expecting him to stuff the scoresheet isn’t a reasonable expectation, but he can provide fantasy production for your lineup at a great price.

Rasmus Ristolainen-Buffalo Sabres ($5,400): Buffalo defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen has quickly made his mark on the NHL and doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. He has scored seven goals and 16 assists in 32 games and his average of 3.8 fantasy points a game is the second-highest average available among defensemen tonight. His price is getting very close to falling out of the value category, but at this point he still won’t cost you as much as the top blueliners. Continue to use Ristolainen until his salary gets too high.
