The PED Substance Era

The three big superstars Sammy Sosa, Alex Rodriguez and Barry Bonds are trying to get into the game’s hallowed shrine and be recognized as baseball’s best. However, for the past 15 years, there has been speculation that all three men have been connected with PED usage that has allowed them to accumulate the base hits, steal bases and home runs with regularity.

Most people probably have a sour taste in their mouths when they think of the impact Bonds, Sosa and A-Rod have left on America’s game. Fans might categorize the trio as being selfish, brats, egotistical or men that they would never want to have as a husband, father or son.

This offseason there was a big surprise in Miami, Florida with the arrival of Bonds returning to the game for the 2016 season as a batting coach of the Miami Marlins. Rodriguez returned to the New York Yankees as a primarily restricted DH, after a year suspension during the 2015 campaign. This is probably speculation on my part, but the return of Bonds and the playing of A-Rod still appears to show signs that both are wanting to remain in the game with hopes of reaching baseball’s shrine.

Allowing Rose into the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown and rejecting the likes of Rodriguez, Sosa or Bonds is not right. Rose bet on baseball games but, while it never affected his health, he changed the course of events to tarnish the game. Rose had the ability to construct a Reds’ batting lineup that would help his own financial gain on a nightly basis.

A-Rod, Sosa and Bonds have all probably been filling their bodies with substances and affecting the game’s statistics during the 1990’s and early portions of this century. If Major League Baseball wants to take a stand on this trio, Rose should also be banned as he affected the playing of games during the 1980’s.
