Things are beginning to click for the Jacksonville Jaguars. The patience of head coach Gus Bradley and solid work of the front office are yielding results on the field. Still, there is work left to do before this team is ready to go from upstart to contender in the AFC.

One area they’re likely to focus is the secondary, with the safety position at the top of the list. John Cyprien looks like he’s settling in nicely at the strong spot, but the Jaguars really haven’t gotten much Josh Evans at the free. So far this year he has no interceptions and just one pass deflection. Given how important the free safety is to coverage, that is nowhere near good enough.

So they go seeking an upgrade in the draft and come across Boise State standout Darian Thompson. Just from a distance he looks nice at a rangy 6’2″, 220 lbs. He’s aggressive on every play, regardless of situation and shows the kind of field speed needed for that position. He tackles well and is aware in coverage, capable of defending receivers or tight ends. If Bradley can get him to settle down, this will be a great pickup.
. FS. Boise State.
