OT. Georgia. John Theus. 54. player. 30.
Defense is what drives the ship for the New York Jets in their quest for a playoff spot, but the play of quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and that offense can’t be discounted. A big reason for that success has been a rough and tough offensive line made up of capable veterans.

Therein lay the problem however. Four of the five starters on that front are over the age of 30 including their two best in center Nick Mangold and left tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson. This doesn’t even account for how poorly right tackle Breno Giacomini and guard Brian Winters have played. Put simply, the Jets have got to address the offensive line early in 2016.

Georgia tackle John Theus is just their type of guy: big, long and featuring a power base that fits well in an offensive system built around the run. That makes it easy to overlook how solid he is in pass protection. Maybe not at the elite level in terms of talent as earlier prospects, but the saying goes a team could do a lot worse. Theus has what it takes to become a steady contributor for a decade.
