Military Bowl – Navy (-3) over Pittsburgh
You’ll have to forgive me for this one, as Navy is a super-public side. The line has already dipped from an opener of five points, and if I follow my “system”, the play would be Pittsburgh. However, I don’t think the public is wrong in this instance, as the Midshipmen have the (much) better team, and the pageantry of the Military Bowl (whatever that means) leans me even further in their direction. In truth, I don’t like the game either way and would advise staying away, but give me Navy if forced to pick it.
Quick Lane Bowl – Minnesota and Central Michigan UNDER 49.5 points
Spoiler alert: This is the only total I’m giving out in the entire post.
To be honest, I hate both sides in terms of a pick against the spread, but I love the under. Minnesota’s offense is wretched but their defense should be enough to slow the Chippewas, and did I mention that Minnesota’s offense is wretched? That deserves additional emphasis. Take the under and “enjoy” a game that finishes 17-13.
Armed Forces Bowl – Air Force (+7) over California
Everyone will be talking about California QB Jared Goff, and with good reason. He is one of the most talented signal-callers in the country and a likely first-round NFL Draft pick. However, I’m not sure Air Force isn’t just better than Cal.
To be fair, I would pick the Bears outright, but Air Force plays a style that Cal isn’t used to defending, and some of the advanced numbers make this game a virtual pick’em. The public will be on the Bears, but in the Armed Forces Bowl, I’ve gotta take Air Force and the points.
Russell Athletic Bowl – Baylor (-1.5) over North Carolina
One of my favorite bets on the board. I’ve faded North Carolina for the majority of the year and, to be honest, that came with mixed results. However, Las Vegas is clearly giving the Heels some respect in this instance, as they have pegged Baylor as a top-10 “Vegas” team throughout the year.
I would love the pick even more if Jarrett Stidham played for Baylor and that has yet to be determined. Regardless, the Bears are the better and more talented team, and the public likes North Carolina after their high-profile battle with Clemson. Run to the window to take the Bears.
