Round 2: Derrick Henry, RB, Alabama

Running back Derrick Henry, the Heisman Trophy Award winner from Alabama could be an absolute steal if he does last until the second round. Fortunately for the Cowboys, they should pick early enough in the second round that a player like Henry could still be sitting there.

Sure, two running backs in Todd Gurley and Melvin Gordon went in round 1 in the 2015 draft, but that simply hasn’t been the norm. Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliot looks like he may go early, but the remaining runners entering the draft in 2016 seem more likely to go round 2 and later.

Henry is an absolute bruiser of a back at 6’3″ and 242 pounds, which would make him an ideal fit in the Cowboys ground-and-pound philosophy. Lining up behind one of the best offensive lines in the league could make Henry an immediate impact player for the ‘Boys and this selection would also get people to move on from the whole DeMarco Murray saga.

For Dallas Henry could also fix another issue they have. Despite getting decent production from both Darren McFadden and Robert Turbin, as well as featuring a massive offensive line, this team is one of the worst in the NFL at 3rd-and-1 and goal line situations. Henry has been great in both areas, making him a true every down back.

As ‘Bama prepares for a second straight college playoff, Henry is sitting at 1,986 yards and a whopping 23 touchdowns. He possesses a surprising speed burst for a guy his size and is an adequate pass protector as well.

His best asset is that he plays for head coach Nick Saban, who runs a pro-style offense. The biggest knock on Henry could be that he is less than stellar in terms of catching out of the backfield as he has just 10 catches for 97 yards this season.

This would be a great pick for the Cowboys as they find two day-one starters with their first two picks.
