Round 4: Vernon Butler, DT, Louisiana Tech

Dallas has paid a lot of attention to three of their four spots along their defensive front line. They have invested high draft picks in defensive ends Randy Gregory and Demarcus Lawrence. They also gave big money to another end in Greg Hardy and dished out a large extension to three-technique defensive tackle Tyrone Crawford.

Then there is their one-technique spot which is currently occupied by Nick Hayden, the most underwhelming member of that line.

Enter Vernon Butler, the defensive tackle out of Louisiana Tech that has the size at 309 pounds to be the run stuffer they need.

In his four seasons at Tech, Butler has 166 total tackles with 28.5 of those going for a loss. He also has five sacks, with three of those coming during his senior season.

Butler isn’t a name that will jump out at you, but he could be a very productive player if Dallas defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli could get his hands on him and coach him up some. He may be able to fill the role of the first and second down tackle who gives way to the pass rushers on third down and passing situations.
