High Salary D

Brent Burns-San Jose Sharks ($7,900): Burns is still the most expensive and the most productive among all defensemen in fantasy hockey. He’s got an amazing 5.5 points per game average and now has goals in two-straight games. In fact, he has the highest average of fantasy points among every player available tonight, including Patrick Kane. Burns has also notched three assists over the last two games and is hands down the best option at defenseman. It will cost you, but he is still very much worth it.

John Carlson-Washington Capitals ($6,800): Washington’s top blueliner has been playing very well lately with points in five games in-a-row. He’s got six points in his last five games and 25 total points for the season. Carlson is a proven producer and yet is nearly $1,000 cheaper than some of the other options at defenseman. If the Capitals are going to continue to stay hot Carlson will need to play a big role.

High Value D

T.J. Brodie-Calgary Flames ($4,800): Brodie leads the flames in ice time and gets plenty of chances to put up points. He’s to producing at the rate of the top defensemen, but he can be a nice value play on a night where the matchup is right. That’s the case tonight versus Detroit because the Red Wings are ranked 26th in fantasy points allowed to defensemen. Brodie has been held scoreless in his last two games but had a seven-game point streak prior to that.

Anton Stralman-Tampa Bay Lightning ($4,400): Stralman won’t light up the scoresheet but he can be a sleeper play in fantasy hockey. He should be one of your targets at defenseman tonight considering that tonight opponent, the Ottawa Senators, ranks last in the league in fantasy points given up to defensemen. Stralman has points in back-to-back games and three points in his last four games. He should make for a good play tonight since the price is low and he typically is not used in many fantasy lineups.
