New York Knicks

Fans in the Big Apple are sick of losing. Knicks fans crave relevance that can only be achieved by winning with star players. Dwight Howard might not play like a superstar anymore, but he’s still got a big name. That might be enough to get the Knicks interested in the Rockets center.

Yes, the team signed Robin Lopez this year to be the ideal center in its Triangle offense, but that hasn’t quite worked out as planned. The Stanford product is only averaging seven points and five rebounds on the season and doesn’t look entirely comfortable on the floor. You’d have to think that Phil Jackson believes Howard could eclipse Lopez’s production for his team.

While Howard wouldn’t be a great fit for the Triangle offense, he would provide a ton of defensive cover for a Knicks team that could really use it. Just as Tyson Chandler did during his last tour of duty for the Knicks, Howard’s shot-blocking ability could be huge to cover up the defensive lapses of Carmelo Anthony and the team’s backcourt players. The tandem of Howard and Kristaps Porzingis would be a super-intimidating frontcourt that would offer some of the best rim protection in the NBA.

No matter how good his defense is, he’d be a horrible offensive fit for a team that’s just starting to develop some flow on that end of the floor. Knicks fans, be afraid, very afraid that Howard might end up at MSG next season.
