Detroit Pistons

When the Detroit Pistons started the season hot, going 5-1, league observers began to believe in the team’s playoff chances. Consider the obvious. The Pistons have a good coach with a proven resume in Stan Van Gundy. They have a star in the making with Andre Drummond. And Reggie Jackson is beginning to resemble the all-star caliber player we all expected when Detroit traded for him just before last season’s trade deadline.

Jackson now leads the Pistons in scoring and is working well in tandem with Drummond. They make a true one-two combination. One that should be together for years to come. Finding a home for guard Brandon Jennings is on the short list of things to do.

The 26-year-old point guard is still rehabbing from a torn Achilles but is slated to return soon. When he does, he will find out that he no longer has a starting job. That will likely mean Jennings will be traded to another team.

Jennings’ status does not have to be a quandary for the Pistons. Reggie Jackson can play some shooting guard; therefore, coexistence can take place between the two of them. While they would make a small backcourt (Jennings and Jackson are 6’1” and 6’3” respectively), offensively they could be explosive. The downside to keeping Jennings is that Kentavious Caldwell-Pope will not get as much time to develop.
