Holiday wish list for every NBA team
Memphis Grizzlies
The season started off in brutal fashion for the Memphis Grizzlies. That became apparent after they were on the wrong end of a 51-point trouncing against the Golden State Warriors. Yes, those same Warriors who many around the league said they were a fortunate group. Not long after the drubbing did the Grizzlies conduct the first, and only trade thus far when they acquired point guard Mario Chalmers. Since then Memphis has played better basketball.
Given the struggles to score, the inability to get Zach Randolph back on track and absence of a shooting guard, the Memphis Grizzlies need to find a flashy new player under their tree. There are often too many stagnant times for this club.
The defense remains stellar with Matt Barnes in the fold, but the window is closing fast on this team. Pretty soon the effort will give way to selfishness and frustration.
Once upon a time, the Memphis Grizzlies were regarded as a contender to represent the Western Conference in the NBA Finals. Defensively, they have a championship-level team. The other side of the ball has long been a different story. In today’s NBA scoring is fast becoming the way teams play. Defense wins championships, but the Warriors proved that a great offense and a great defense could turn into a title.
