First Round: Jalen Ramsey: Cornerback, Florida State

The Jacksonville Jaguars are at 5-9, so they are looking at their first pick around 10th in the first round, give or take. This 2016 NFL Draft has a great deal of high-end cornerbacks and if one is available, expect the Jaguars to go corner in the first round.

With the Florida Gators’ shutdown cornerback Vernon Hargreaves, III likely already off the board, look for the Jaguars to stay in-state and select defensive back Jalen Ramsey out of Florida State University. In the last two first rounds, the Jaguars have stayed in the State of Florida to select their first round pick. 2014 yielded quarterback Blake Bortles No. 3 overall out of Central Florida. 2015 brought outside linebacker Dante Fowler, Jr. No. 3 overall out of Florida. Would Ramsey make it three times in a row Jacksonville took a player from Florida?

It would make sense as part of the rebuilding plans is to build around guys who want to play for Jacksonville. Playing close to home or where a player played collegiately makes sense. Choosing Ramsey would give the Jaguars a high-octane talent in the defensive backfield that could play either cornerback or safety for Jacksonville. Bradley would love having a player a versatile as Ramsey in the defensive backfield.

It seems that the secondary is lagging behind the front seven in Bradley’s defensive, so look for general manager David Caldwell to go with the logical choice and go defensive back in the first round with the Jaguars’ pick around 10th in the 2016 NFL Draft.
