Second Round: Jonathan Allen: Defensive End, Alabama

Since the defense is lagging behind the offense with the Jacksonville Jaguars under head coach Gus Bradley, it makes sense for the Jaguars to attack the top half of their draft heavily on the defensive side of the football. The more playmakers they can obtain, the quicker Jacksonville can get to contending for division championships in the AFC South.

Jacksonville may want to stay in the Southeast region and select defensive end Jonathan Allen out of the University of Alabama with the teams’ second-round draft pick. Allen is part of a defense in Tuscaloosa that is likely composed entirely out of NFL talent for head coach Nick Saban.

Allen’s defensive coordinator Kirby Smart is the new head coach at the University of Georgia, so Jacksonville knows that they are getting a top-tier talent and well-coached player in Allen. He could bring with him the mentality of what it takes to play in an elite front seven to Jacksonville.

The Jaguars are close in the front seven and an additional piece or two coming in from the 2016 NFL Draft could offset any sort of issues the team could run into up front via free agency. The key to becoming an elite defensive team is to have a strong front seven and have a great pass rusher like Allen would go a long way in helping the Jaguars on the defensive line.
