Sixth Round (From Pittsburgh): William Jackson, III: Cornerback, Houston

The Jacksonville Jaguars have an extra sixth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft because of the preseason trade the team made with the Pittsburgh Steelers, sending the franchise’s all-time points leader in kicker Josh Scobee to The Confluence in Western Pennsylvania.

Since Jacksonville seems to need more help in the secondary than anywhere on the defensive side, they may look to go defensive back again in the later rounds of their 2016 NFL Draft. One such selection would be to go with William Jackson, III, a cornerback out of the University of Houston with the team’s pick from the Steelers.

Jackson and his Houston Cougars will play in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl as part of the New Year’s Six bowl games. Houston won the American and earned the Group of Five New Year’s Six bid. Should Houston play well against Florida State, that may elevate the notoriety of some of its players, including Jackson.

Head coach Gus Bradley still needs pieces to bolster his defense in year four. Going with a defensive back like Jackson adds to both competition and depth in the secondary. Look for Jacksonville to go heavy on the defensive side of the football from top to bottom in the 2016 NFL Draft.
