Minnesota Vikings 7-Round Mock Draft
By Adam Carlson
Round 7: Arjen Colquhoun, CB – Michigan State
Last year, the Minnesota Vikings drafted cornerback Trae Waynes in the first round, so selecting his teammate at cornerback when he’s available in the later rounds is a fun idea. Colquhoun stands 6’1″ and weighs 197 pounds, giving him the nearly ideal size for the position.
The Michigan State defensive back didn’t find himself in a big role in their defense until his final season there, when he played in 13 games and nabbed two interceptions. Colquhoun will need a lot of development before he can be an NFL cornerback, but he should be able to contribute on special teams while he learns or even be a practice squad body until he’s ready to be moved up to the main roster.
Minnesota will need to work on finding more young talent at cornerback, as there is no knowing how long veteran Terence Newman will be able to go before he retires. Making a small investment in the position at the end of the draft is a tiny gamble that the Vikings can afford to lose if they feel his skill set is one that they can’t develop or would take too long to acclimate.
