Buffalo Bills 7-Round 2016 NFL Mock Draft
By Chase Ruttig
Round 6: Keenan Reynolds, Navy QB
Keenan Reynolds is one of the NFL Draft’s most interesting prospects, and not only because he ran the triple-option offense to perfection, but because he will need to serve mandatory service time after attending a service academy for his college career in which he was one of the best running quarterbacks in history with the Midshipmen.
Reynolds dominated as a player who surpassed many NFL names on the all-time list for rushing touchdowns, also throwing to success during his senior season to show that he could develop into a capable dual-threat NFL quarterback if he is given a chance. Which could be a challenge considering that he may have to serve in the military for the prime of his post-college career and fade into obscurity if he isn’t given an exemption by the Navy.
That exemption is likely what hinges upon Reynolds hopes of playing in the NFL, but even if teams don’t know if he will be able to come into their system right away his running ability alone makes him an enticing late-round name and with EJ Manuel not improving as a backup behind Tyrod Taylor the Bills could get a similar player behind their starting quarterback that could also play in running packages as an offensive weapon.
Of course, Reynolds could be drafted and then placed into his service time with the Navy, but as we all witnessed during his now legendary senior season the undeniable talent of Reynolds makes him worth the risk of not having a true position and potentially having to wait for him to even be able to play pro football. The risk could be worth the reward for the right team, and the Bills could be that team to take a chance on Reynolds.
