Round 3: Joshua Garnett, OG (Stanford)

One of the glaring weak spots on the Dolphins offense in 2015 has been their lack of quality blocking on the interior of their offensive line. They need an influx of talented depth at offensive guard that has the potential to move into a starting role sooner rather than later. That seems like a perfect role for a player like Joshua Garnett of the Stanford Cardinal.

Garnett is a huge body on the interior of an offensive line at 6-4, 321 pounds. The big man was instrumental in helping Christian McCaffrey have the season he did in the rushing game as the big lineman has the power, length, and shocking quickness to not only block at the line of scrimmage, but also to pull and mow over linebackers on the second level. However, Garnett isn’t without some shortcomings as he’ll need to develop better technique in terms of dealing with quick interior pass rushers at the NFL level.

All of that in mind, Garnett has tremendous potential to be a high quality NFL guard. The physical tools that come with the Stanford man are undeniable and his limitations are easily curable with experience at the NFL level and with NFL level coaching. The Dolphins would be filling a need in a big way by going with Garnett in the third.
