Clippers star power forward Blake Griffin will be out two weeks with a quad injury

The Los Angeles Clippers have largely fallen short of preseason expectations heading into the 2015-16 NBA season. While they are above .500 and still in the playoff race, they have appeared to be a team that’s simply not clicking and missing a few key components before you could call them a contender. Now, their road in the immediate future is going to get even tougher as they go at it without Blake Griffin.

On Saturday, the Clippers announced that All-Star power forward Blake Griffin has a partially torn left quad tendon and that he will be out at least two weeks before being reevaluated:

While the fact that Griffin is missing two weeks is certainly uncomforting for the Clippers, the fact that they aren’t 100 percent sure that he’ll be ready after two weeks of recovery is even more disconcerting. That makes it sound as if this injury has the potential to linger around and hamper the star big man for more than the two-week timetable.

In terms of what the Clippers will be losing, this is again not a great thing. Despite their lackluster start to the season, Griffin has been one of their most consistent threats as he’s averaged 23.2 points, 8.7 rebounds and five assists thus far in the 2015-16 season.

With the Clippers sincere lack of depth in the frontcourt, Griffin is one of their least expendable pieces in their rotation. It will be interesting to see if the Clippers try to ride this out or if they are already on the phones trying to make a trade to help put a band aid on this situation.
