Round 3- RB/WR D.J. Foster, Arizona State

The running back situation of the Jets has been good in 2015 but not the powerhouse as many thought it would be. Running back Chris Ivory has led the charge but once again, started to fizzle towards the end of the season due to the normal wear and tear his position brings. Bilal Powell developed nicely into a hybrid kind of running back with his ability to come out of the backfield as a receiving option and has added a great dimension on offense but missed time due to injury.

Stevan Ridley hasn’t been the kind of running back that the Jets had hoped he could be. He hasn’t done anything this season due to injuries even though his ceiling was high that he could return to his 2012 form when he was a member of the New England Patriots and tearing up the league. Ridley ended up as a bust and will more than likely not be back after this season since he’s an unrestricted free agent in 2016. That is why it makes sense for the Jets to draft running back D.J. Foster out of Arizona State in Round 3.

Foster’s story is unique since he was dominantly known as a wide receiver and experimented with being a running back in 2015 but it hasn’t been as successful as planned. Before making the switch, he was a solid wide receiver that made big plays when his team needed it. Many analysts say because of his 6’0 and 195 pound frame, he’s better suited as a running back with having hybrid capabilities of also being a threat out of the backfield.

With Arizona State, Foster put up impressive numbers both through the ground and air. As a running back, he totaled 2,351 yards on 441 carries and 18 touchdowns. As a wide receiver, Foster totaled 2,418 yards on 217 receptions and 14 touchdowns. To bring that to the offense of the Jets in 2016 would be huge when combined with both Ivory and Powell to make a true triple threat at running back.
