26. 1991 Los Angeles Raiders (9-7)

The Los Angeles Raiders and the Raiders of Oakland have enjoyed some wildly successful seasons in franchise history, though there haven’t been many of them very recently. However, the 1991 Raiders don’t exactly fit into the mix in that regard. Sure, they made it into the NFL Playoffs, but that’s about the only nice thing that you can say about this mundane football team.

With Jay Schroeder at quarterback and an aging combination of Marcus Allen and Roger Craig at running back, the offense wasn’t incompetent by any stretch, but they also were never anything special. There were too many mouths in the kitchen to a certain degree, but there was also just a decline in talent. The defense wasn’t abysmal by any stretch as the great, brutal Ronnie Lott was still leading that unit later in his career. However, everything about this team was just simply average.

This Raiders team did something that always makes a team seem lackluster, backing into the playoffs in a big way. The ’91 Raiders lost their last three games of the regular season after starting 9-4 and then lost in their opening round matchup in the playoffs despite only allowing 10 points to the Kansas City Chiefs. That speaks volumes about just how ho-hum this team was.
