High Salary D

Justin Faulk-Carolina Hurricanes ($6,100): Faulk trails only Erik Karlsson among defensemen tonight with an average of 4.1 fantasy points per game. He has 29 points in 35 games this year and has registered points in seven of nine games. He scored a goal and added an assist Saturday night and is a top defenseman target. Tonight’s matchup with Chicago sets up well, as the Blackhawks are ranked 21st against defenseman. If you don’t want to pay the big bucks for Karlsson, Faulk is a smart option.

Erik Karlsson-Ottawa Senators ($7,500): It’s not a surprise that Karlsson is the most expensive defenseman on the board tonight. The Ottawa blueliner has been one of the best in the NHL over the past few seasons and is have a great 2015 campaign with 38 points in 35 games. He is riding a five-game point streak and has an average of 4.7 fantasy points per game. There are usually some good value picks at defenseman, but Karlsson needs to be considered each night.

High Value D

Shayne Gostisbehere-Philadelphia Flyers ($4,500): Gostisbehere is no longer a hidden gem in fantasy hockey and his salary has continued to increase. He’s got 14 points in 18 games and has become an important player for the Flyers. He’s been off since December 21 and should be ready to get back at it tonight in Anaheim. He’s got three points in his last two games and five points over his last five games. Continue to take advantage of Gostisbehere while his salary remains at a reasonable level.

Dion Phaneuf-Toronto Maple Leafs ($4,100): Phaneuf may be getting up in years but he should still have a place on fantasy lineups. He’s recorded 18 points in 33 games this year, 16 by was of assists. He currently has a two-game points streak with an assist in each game. He’s averaging 2.8 fantasy points a game and makes a great choice if you are funning low on funds by the time you select a defenseman.
