Jaguars vs. Saints, 38-27: Full highlights, final score and more
The Saints thoroughly dismantled the Jaguars en route to a hearty victory
The New Orleans Saints welcomed the Jacksonville Jaguars to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome for Week 16 action and, with two of the worst defenses in the league battling it out, the makings for a high-scoring shootout were in place from the start. The only problem was that it seems that only Drew Brees and the Saints got the memo that the game had begun as New Orleans jumped all over the Jags early on.
Brees, playing through a plantar fascia injury, started the game with a drive down the field that he made look too easy, culminating with a touchdown pass. That was the theme of the first half as a whole as Brees completed a number of big-time throws and drives while Blake Bortles was on the field turning the ball over and not taking advantage of one of the worst passing defenses in the NFL. The Saints took a 24-6 lead into halftime.
To Bortles’ and Jacksonville’s credit, they woke up on offense in the second half as Bortles started completing big-time throws and his talented receiving duo of Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson started making big plays to try and make the game respectable. Thanks to Brees and Tim Hightower, though, the Saints weren’t about to let that happen as they just kept rolling over the Jags. Jacksonville scored again late to make the score closer than the game actually was, but the Saints pulled out the victory after a dominant performance at home.
Three stars
Drew Brees may have been banged up in this game, but you’d have never known. He finished the day going 25-36 for 412 yards and three touchdowns.
Tim Hightower was phenomenal for the Saints in this game as he took 27 carries for 122 yards and two touchdowns while also adding three catches for 47 yards receiving.
Allen Robinson had a big day that included a monstrous 90-yard touchdown reception for Jacksonville. He finished the afternoon with six catches for 151 yards and the score.
