The Vikings were destroying the Giants, but Rueben Randle still salvaged his night

The New York Giants offense had been anemic through the majority of the first three quarters of their Week 16 Sunday Night Football matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. Without Odell Beckham Jr. in the fold, Eli Manning struggled mightily to do anything throwing the ball beyond throwing interceptions. Rueben Randle helped him save face late in the third quarter, though.

Trailing 32-3 late in the third quarter, the Giants decided to go for it all with a deep post to Randle over the middle of the field. Eli threw a great ball to Randle who made the catch, but the receiver made an even better play to stay on his feet after absorbing a big hit before trotting through the open field down the sideline and into the end zone:

While the touchdown was ultimately meaningless in the context of the game as all it did was cut the lead to 22 points, that’s a hell of a play by Randle. Not only was it a nice route and adjustment to make the catch, but that takes a great deal of talent to stay on his feet after taking that kind of hit. Maybe the next time he does something like that, it won’t be so inconsequential.
