Move over Avatar, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now the fastest film to the $1-billion mark.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens continues to smash records at the box office. This weekend The Force Awakens crossed the $1-billion revenue mark and surpassed Avatar as the fastest film to cross the threshold.
The seventh film in the trilogy has hit a home run and people will continue to see the latest installment of the franchise. What has helped the box office revenue for this film is the many fans that have seen the movie multiple times in the first month the movie has been out and the anticipation since episode three of Star Wars.
This latest revenue record news adds to the movie’s record $49.3-million take on Christmas Day. In the United States the movie brought in $544.6 million in less than two weeks, according to the Washington Post.
It’s safe to say that Disney made a great investment by buying Lucasfilm in 2012. 2015 will be the first time Disney brought in over $2-billion for the year in total domestic gross. Overall, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has broken many box office records and it would not be surprising if box office records continue to fall as the new year hits.
Episode eight and nine of the
Star Wars
trilogy has some tough competition to exceed and surpass, but many have said that about the next episode over the previous. The expectations are high for the
Star Wars
franchise as it moves forward, but it is one of the most recognizable movies and toy products as movie fanatics want to collect as much as possible from the movie series.
Luckily for those who love the series, Star Wars will be around for years to come and consumers will be able to take in what is yet to come and what has already been produced.
