Previous: . detroit lions. 24. team. 50.
The Detroit Lions are 5-2 over the last seven game, let that sink in for a moment. The Lions, and particularly quarterback Matthew Stafford, continue to thrive under new offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter.

Stafford completed 29-of-37 passes for 307 yards and two touchdowns, throwing no interceptions. Calvin Johnson had a decent day, catching six passes for 77 yards and a touchdown.

While this has to have the Lions and their fans feeling good heading into 2016, and most certainly saved Jim Caldwell his job, this late season push might have done more harm than good. The Lions had a chance to take the No. 1 overall pick and really bolster their team after going 1-7 through the first eight games of the season. Now they’ll be drafting outside the top-10 and aren’t in the hunt for any kind of playoff spot.

But still looking ahead to 2016, the Lions have to be optimistic. If they can keep up that 5-2 pace over the 2016 season they’re headed to double digit wins and a playoff berth. A few pieces in the draft and a successful free agency could set the Lions up to contend in an NFC North which could be incredibly competitive next season.
. (6-9)
