4. Josh McDaniels
The New England Patriots offensive coordinator failed miserably during his first time as a head coach with the Denver Broncos. After a 6-0 start in his first season, the Broncos collapsed and missed the playoffs before a miserable 2010 season led to his firing. McDaniels previously experienced massive success with the Patriots, as he was the offensive coordinator during their historic 2007 season. After returning to his old post in 2012, McDaniels helped guide the Patriots to their fourth Super Bowl victory in 2014.
The 39-year-old offensive coordinator will need to prove that he can succeed without Tom Brady. A second stint with Bill Belichick may be just what he needed to learn what it means to be a head coach though. Notable coaches such as Pete Carroll have experienced success after receiving a second chance to coach in the NFL. The Eagles will certainly be considering an offensive guru to utilize their weapons better than Kelly did, even though their defense was the main area of struggle.
If the Eagles are looking for young blood to lead their team, they should look no further than McDaniels. The Eagles will have to decide for sure whether they can hire him and avoid a repeat of Kelly’s stint though.
