St. Louis Rams 7-round mock draft

Round 4: Jack Allen, Center, Michigan State
When you have a thoroughbred like Todd Gurley running the ball, you want to make sure that he has the best available course to the end zone. Michigan State center Jack Allen could be clearing running lanes for Gurley for a long time.
The 2015 Rimington Trophy finalist was the glue that held Michigan State’s offensive line together. At 6’2″ 298 pounds, Allen is a big and physical blocker who can blow defensive lineman off the line of scrimmage. He is your typical Big Ten offensive lineman, and he grinds on every play. There aren’t many offensive linemen in the draft that have this kind of heart and determination.
However, he’s not as athletic as some of the premier centers in the draft. He’s been accused of over-pursuing on some of his blocks in the running game and getting beaten by very athletic defensive tackles. This could be a problem against the likes of Seattle’s Brandon Mebane and some of the other talented defensive linemen in the division.
The fact of the matter is that the Rams will have to address the center position eventually. It’s not the team’s greatest need, but Tim Barnes will become a free-agent after this season is up. The Rams should take a long look at Allen because he could be one of the more consistent center prospects left.
