DraftKings daily picks: Fantasy hockey lineup, January 2
High Salary W
Alex Ovechkin-Washington Capitals ($8,800): Ovechkin is on another hot streak with points in three straight games. He will cost you the most of any winger available tonight but you won’t mind paying for the type of numbers that Ovie can provide. He has four goals in the last three games and draws a very good matchup with Columbus tonight. You will be able to find value elsewhere so go ahead and take Washington’s star winger.
Jamie Benn-Dallas Stars ($8,600): Benn is another one of the superstars on the board at winger tonight. He has a price tag a bit lower than Ovechkin but has the same average of fantasy points per game (5.2). He leads the league with 24 goals and is second overall with 52 points. He’ll take a seven-game point streak into tonight’s game with New Jersey.
Alexander Steen-St. Louis ($7,100): Steen will be called upon to play an even bigger role if Vladimir Tarasanko is forced to miss another game tonight. Steen picked up an assist Thursday against Minnesota and now has points in two straight games. He’s got 35 points in 40 games and has a healthy average of 3.8 fantasy points per contest. A game with Toronto and it’s ranking of 23rd against left wingers makes Steen a great target.
High Value W
Shane Doan-Arizona Coyotes ($4,000): Doan has been a good value pick this season thanks to his solid production, low price tag and the fact that he can get overlooked out in Arizona. Doan has been a beast over the last two games with a total of five points. He recorded a hat trick on Tuesday and followed it up with two goals on Thursday. Tonight he’ll face Edmonton, a team ranked 29th versus opposing right wingers. Target Doan and save some valuable cap space.
Dustin Brown-LA Kings ($3,600): Brown is a sleeper pick today because he has a great price, a great matchup and he’s been hot as of late. He has five points in his last five games and gets a a very favorable matchup with the Flyers today, the worst team in the league in points allowed to left wingers. Brown should have a low ownership number, which makes him even more valuable for your lineup.
Phillip Di Giuseppe-Carolina Hurricanes ($3,000): Di Giuseppe was a popular pick a few weeks ago but then he went through a four-game drought. Overall he’s been very solid for the Hurricanes. Just 13 games into his NHL career, Di Giuseppe has three goals and four assists with two points in the last three games. He lit the lamp Thursday night against Washington and with a salary at just $3,000 he makes for an excellent value choice.
