High Salary D

Mark Giordano-Calgary Flames ($6,100): Giordano isn’t as high-priced as some of the other defenseman available but he has been just as productive with an average of 3.9 fantasy points a game. Giordano plays a bunch of minutes and sees valuable time on the power play. He’s got points in his last two games and draws a favorable matchup with Colorado tonight. If you’re looking for good production from your defenseman but don’t want to pay for one of the higher-priced guys take Giordano.

Brent Burns-San Jose Sharks ($8,100): It seems that Burns finds the scoresheet every time he’s on the ice. He’s got the highest average of fantasy points (5.5) of anyone tonight; defenseman, winger or center. Of course it will cost you, but Burns has proven himself worthy plenty of times. Burns is riding a three-game point streak and has put up 10 points in the last six games. A favorable matchup with Winnipeg awaits Burns tonight, giving him an excellent opportunity to once again put up points.

High Value D

Dion Phaneuf-Toronto Maple Leafs ($4,200): Phaneuf has still proven to be valuable to fantasy lineups this year though just not at the same rate as in years past. However, he’s got 19 points this season and has three in his last five games. St. Louis will be a tough opponent tonight but Phaneuf could be a sneaky play for your fantasy lineup.

Matt Niskanen-Washington Capitals ($4,300): Niskanen has been called upon lately to produce more with fellow defensemen Brooks Orpik already out and John Carlson now out of the lineup due to injury. Niskanen has just 15 points this year but currently has a two-game point streak. He’s under the radar but makes for a good value pick at defenseman.
