Everyone knew that the New York Jets were going to have one of the best defenses in the NFL in the 2015 regular season; that’s what their team was constructed to do and having Todd Bowles at head coach only further made their case. However, what many people around the league—even those in the know around this team—didn’t see the offense in New York performing at the level that it did in 2015.

With one of the best defenses in the league aiding his efforts, Ryan Fitzpatrick put forth his best season as a pro in his first year with the Jets. He was certainly helped out by the fact that Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker also enjoyed top-tier seasons as his top two targets in the passing game, but even then Fitzpatrick performed better than anyone could have expected. Moreover, Chris Ivory was a consistent force in the running game for the Jets as well.

Despite the fact that they played far better than expected as a whole and finished at 10-6, it’s impossible to give them a higher grade than a B- for the season after what happened in Week 17. All they needed was to top a Bills team that they were notably better than for much of the year and Fitzpatrick imploded in the fourth quarter to secure a loss and knock the Jets out of the postseason. There’s no question that, had they avoided that collapse, their grade would have been even more favorable.
