player. 10.
Despite making the playoffs for the first time since 2012, the Houston Texans will be looking to upgrade the current talent level at the quarterback position. Bill O’Brien played four different quarterbacks this season, one of which is no longer on the team. The veteran of the group, Brian Hoyer, has proven to be nothing more than an average back up who can play in some spot starts. Entering his third season with the Texans, Head Coach Bill O’Brien needs to find the franchise a new leader on offense.

If you want a leader who has the history of turning around a program like no one ever has, Christian Hackenberg is that guy. Coached under O’Brien at Penn State, Hackenberg was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and helped save a program on the verge of collapsing. On the field, Hackenberg admittedly still has some things to clean up.

Accuracy is going to be his biggest issue, posting a career completion percentage of 56.1 in his three years at Happy Valley. That accuracy can be fixed with the help of a terrific offensive coach (O’Brien) and an offensive line that only allowed 34 sacks this season. Hackenberg will be working with quarterback coach Jordan Palmer (brother of Cardinals QB Carson) as he prepares for the draft. Palmer was Blake Bortles pre-draft coach two years ago before the UCF quarterback went number three overall to Jacksonville. While the 20-year old quarterback did suffer a shoulder sprain in the TaxSlayer Bowl, that is not expected to hinder him for an extended period of time.
