You’re the worst: Ranking Chiefs QBs since 1993
10. Kyle Orton
The great Kyle Orton came to Kansas City and did exactly what you’d expect from a man with one the greatest neck beards in human civilization. After Tyler Palko – yes that Tyler Palko – was banged around, Orton was given the nod to start three games in the 2011 season.
In game No. 1 he led the Chiefs to an upset victory over the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers, ending their winning streak at 19 games. From there it was an overtime loss to the Raiders and a thrilling Week 17, 7-3 victory over the Tim Tebow-led Denver Broncos.
His brief tenure in Kansas City was vintage Orton: good enough to eke out a couple of surprising wins; bad enough to not even beat out Tyler Palko for second string.
9. Chase Daniel
Chase Daniel, the hometown kid – well kinda, he played college ball for Missouri. Dude has a Super Bowl ring to his name and championship swagger. Unfortunately none of it has come with the Chiefs. Daniel is the kinda guy you forget is on the team until Week 17 … when he’s then called upon to start a meaningless December game.
In 2013, with the Chiefs having already locked up a playoff berth, Daniel started his first ever NFL game against the San Diego Chargers. He threw for a blistering 200 yards and one touchdown … and the team lost in overtime. The following year, with starting quarterback Alex Smith sidelined with a lacerated spleen it was Daniel-Chargers II in Week 17.
Was there any doubt that he’d get his? The Chiefs won and the Chargers were knocked from the playoffs.Sadly, there was no Daniel sighting in Week 17 of the 2015 season. Alas, what could have been.
