Top 5 head coach candidates for Buccaneers
By Josh Hill
Why They Fit: There are two things that work for Fisher getting the Buccaneers job. The first is obvious — his association with Jameis Winston. He helped recruit Winston at Florida State, coached him up, bailed him out and won a national championship with him. It would be so storybook for Fisher to leap to the NFL and win a title at the pro level as an unproven head coach with his unproven quarterback. Fisher also has years of experience coaching quarterbacks at LSU and FSU, so he fits the bill in that regard too.
Why They Don’t Fit: Fisher isn’t even that great of a coach at Florida State, let alone one that has never proved himself at the NFL level. If the Buccaneers hand out a head coaching job to a guy that has zero NFL experience on his resume just for association, then they’re in even worse shape than the Browns are.
Will It Happen: If hell froze over a few times, maybe. Look, it makes sense for Fisher to reunite with Winston but he’s not even that great of a college coach and would probably be better suited seeking a Power 5 job that opens in the future.
