DraftKings daily picks: Fantasy hockey lineup- January 7
High Salary C
Joe Pavelski-San Jose Sharks ($7,600): Pavelski is third in terms of salary tonight but second in fantasy points per game (4.5) among centers tonight. He’s always a top option and is a major source of the offense for the Sharks. He has 20 goals and 18 assists this season and just had a two-goal game agasint Philadelphia on December 30. Tonight’s opponent, Detroit, has been tough on opposing centers, but Pavelski makes for a solid pick each night he’s on the ice.
Tyler Seguin-Dallas Stars ($8,500): Seguin is coming off his worst game by far this season in which he was a minus-3 and failed to register any shots against the Rangers on Tuesday. He even remained on the bench for much of the final period due to his poor play. Despite the poor showing, Seguin remains a top option, especially considering that he should be highly motivated to bounce back in a big way. Spend big for Seguin and expect some big numbers in a very favorable matchup with Winnipeg.
Nicklas Backstrom-Washington Capitals ($6,400): Backstrom is priced low compared to some of the options above him but don’t let the price fool you. Night in and night out he is one of the best options available at center. The Capitals are still rolling and as the top-line center, Backstrom plays a big role for the team. He’s riding a three-game point streak and will look to keep it going against the Islanders tonight.
High Value C
Mikael Granlund-Minnesota Wild ($4,300): Granlund gets a fantastic matchup tonight with Philadelphia, the worst team in the league when it comes to points allowed to centers. He’s coming off a huge game on Tuesday in which he scored a goal and dished out two assists. He had a five-game drought prior to that so temper your expectations for Granlund. However, he makes for a fine option for tonight’s lineup.
Evgeni Kuznetsov-Washington Capitals ($5,900) Kuznetsov is almost to the point where he’ll have to be considered a high salary option at center. He’s been playing great hockey and continues to be a target for fantasy hockey lineups. He’s coming off of back-to-back two-point games and has six points in his last four games. Unfortunately, Kuznetsov is no longer an unknown in the fantasy world, but you still need to get him in your lineup tonight.
Antoine Vermette-Arizona Coyotes ($3,300): Vermette has been playing well lately with two points in his last three games. He’s got a great price tag and sees good ice time, including on the power play. He’s one of the player’s that has helped Arizona have a very successful year. Vermette will likely have a low ownership number, making him even more valuable for your lineup tonight.
