Chiefs vs. Colts (2013 Wild Card)

One of the worst ways to lose an NFL playoff game is to do so after giving a huge lead. That’s precisely what happened to the Kansas City Chiefs when they lost to the Indianapolis Colts 45-44. They had a 38-10 lead at one point during the third quarter. However, after that, the Chiefs suffered arguably the worst playoff meltdown in NFL history by allowing the Colts to enjoy a 35-point outburst in the second half, led by Andrew Luck and T.Y. Hilton.

The Chiefs lost the game because they started making too many mistakes and they started playing soft coverage against Luck. Those two factors led to an epic comeback that proves that the prevent defense can easily prevent a team from winning. Alex Smith passed for 378 passing yards and four touchdowns. Any time Smith passes for that many yards and his team loses, it is wasting a pretty darn good performance.

The Chiefs were excellent at running the ball during the 2013-2014 season but they simply couldn’t eat up the clock against the Colts when they needed to. The Chiefs have been on the wrong end in some of the roughest playoff games in NFL history, but that has to be the worst playoff loss that they’ve ever endured.
