NFL playoffs: Five worst losses of all-time
Rams vs. Titans (Super Bowl XXXIV)
The Tennessee Titans and St. Louis Rams faced each other in Super Bowl XXXIV. It was one of the most exciting Super Bowls in NFL history. The Titans were in position to win their first Super Bowl ever and potentially change the way that the “Greatest Show on Turf” Rams were viewed. But they lost in the most heartbreaking fashion possible, coming up one yard short of sending the game into overtime.
Steve McNair led the Rams down the field in what could have been one of the most memorable drives in NFL history. With just seconds remaining, McNair ran a play that was designed to get the ball to slot receiver Kevin Dyson. The play was executed to near perfection. Dyson found a soft spot in coverage and caught the ball at the five yard line. Everything looked perfect.
A heads-up play by Rams linebacker Mike Jones saved the game as he was able to wrap up Dyson’s legs and keep him from moving. Dyson made a desperate effort to reach the ball over the goal line as he was going down, but he came up just inches short.
Titans fans likely still have nightmares about one of the craziest finishes in NFL history.
