Reggie Ragland. 19. player. 16.
Year One in the Rex Ryan Era was … interesting. The Bills, at least record-wise, regressed by a game. However, from a competency and relevancy standpoint they more than met quota. The latter was inevitable with Ryan’s hiring; the former was a pleasant surprise.

When healthy, the Bills were one of the more explosive teams in the NFL. However, it was a rarity to see Tyrod Taylor, Sammy Watkins and LeSean McCoy on the field at the same time.

Looking at the board and knowing his team needs to muscle up on defense, Rex Ryan chooses what could turn out to be the best pick of the draft: linebacker Reggie Ragland out of Alabama.

Ragland is everything that a defensive-minded coach could want. He boasts the intelligence to read plays as they develop, and boasts the athleticism to react accordingly. North-South, East-West, run stopping, pass coverage and all points in between, Ragland can do it. He has a nose for the ball and is the type of player whom you see on every play – whether he was first to the ball or cleaning up.

Moreover, Ragland is coming from a program and college coach who has made his nut on producing NFL-caliber linebackers. Ryan and the Bills just landed their new defensive captain for the future.
. LB. Alabama
