Jared Goff. 2. player. 53.
Only God knows what the Cleveland Browns will do here. That’s usually the case with Cleveland, but now more so than ever they feel like an ultimate wildcard. Jimmy Haslam axed Mike Pettine and Ray Farmer, and has brought in two analytics guys – Sashi Brown and Paul DePodesta – to make operational decisions. At the moment, the team still does not have a coach or general manager.

That said, the Browns need a quarterback (among other things). If a new regime is going to put its stamp on the team, then what better way than by drafting the latest, newest face of the franchise. Given that we’re dealing with analytics experts, this means the Browns roll with the safest quarterback in the draft: Jared Goff.

Of all the quarterbacks to come out, Goff is the closest to a sure thing (to be clear: there is no sure thing at quarterback this year). He’s a touchdown factory who increased both his accuracy and quarterback rating every season while at Cal. The increase in interceptions this past year is concerning, but Goffs touchdown number did go up.

Goff is a far cry from the past two first round quarterbacks – he has no character concerns, nor does he have an AARP card – so that right there is a marked difference. He is the first in a long line of steps that need to be taken to fix the moribund Browns.
. QB. Cal
