2) An underrated defense

There’s been a lot of press coverage for Cam Newton and the Panther’s offense this season, but the defense has largely gone unnoticed. Unless Josh Norman is making headlines with his mouth, the Panthers D has managed to fly under the radar.

Don’t forget for a minute that Cam Newton isn’t the only star on this team. The defense has some pretty talented guys too. The previously mentioned Josh Norman has been one of the best corners in the NFL this season when he keeps his mouth shut.

Luke Kuechly might be the best middle linebacker in football and his running mate Thomas Davis hasn’t been too bad either. Add all that up with a front four that’s stocked with talented guys like Charles Johnson and you have a very good unit.

This group is especially good at forcing turnovers. Norman can pick you off, but the real strength is that front seven who can light you up. They tend to find ways to get the ball on the ground and recover it. That’s the name of the game in the playoffs when a timely turnover can completely transform a game.

Don’t be surprised if there is at least one playoff game where this Panthers defense manages to carry the team. The underrated defense will help Carolina win ugly and keep their Super Bowl dreams alive.
