Nine MLB players who could be traded mid-season in 2016
5) Andrew Cashner
We all know how much the Padres disappointed last season, especially after they went out and “won the offseason” with their aggressive trades. Now it seems as if they are regretting those moves and starting to sell high while they can like they did with Craig Kimbrel early in the offseason.
Unless a miracle happens, the Padres are not going to compete in the stacked NL West. So, they will be looking to sell on some of these players like Andrew Cashner, who will be looking to improve his stock after a disappointing 2015 as he heads into free agency.
Cashner will be out to prove that his 2014 season was no fluke, and that his 2015 increase ERA was. If Cashner does that, look for a number of teams to be in on the hard throwing righty. Cashner could even see himself wearing a Cubs jersey again if the Cubs see a need in acquiring a pitcher by the deadline.
Unfortunately for Padres fans, this is simply the best scenario for the team. While nobody wins the division in the offseason (see 2015 Padres), the Diamondbacks, Dodgers, and Giants all remarkably improved. Even if one of them falters and the Padres find themselves finishing third, they are still not making the playoffs and will need to attempt to get younger.
