Now, to consider a team who could use all the help they can get. At 11-29, the Nets have the third worst record in the NBA, they have fired head coach Lionel Hollins, GM Billy King has stepped down, and the franchise is in disarray.

Besides Brook Lopez having one of the best seasons of his career and Thaddeus Young averaging 15.6 points and a career-high 9.3 rebounds per game, there aren’t really many bright spots when looking at their future. Rookie Rondae Hollis-Jefferson looked good before his ankle injury and showed real potential defensively, but still, the Nets don’t have much going for them.

They need to rebuild, and a new young, quick, energetic point guard could be a good start. As we’ve already mentioned, Jennings isn’t going to be quite his normal self yet after sustaining such a serious injury. That being said, he’s still a talented player, and for a team in need of so much help, why not pursue the Pistons’ backup point guard now that their need for him is so much lower?

Thanks to Jarrett Jack’s torn ACL which has put him out for the season, the weakness of the rest of the team is even more apparent. The Nets have needed to start Donald Sloan and Wayne Ellington in their backcourt for their last three games, which hardly screams “playoffs” by any means. They lack depth, offense, perimeter defense, ball movement, or generally any attribute that makes a good basketball team.

Seeing as a total restructuring of the roster seems inevitable, they might as well try to package together a deal to land a talent like Jennings for a fairly moderate price.

The Nets clearly don’t have much expendable talent as they don’t have much talent all together, but if they want to try hitting the reset button and hope to re-sign Jennings this summer and make him a key piece going forward, maybe that’s their best option.
