The Detroit Pistons are retiring Ben Wallace’s jersey on Saturday night and wearing awful socks for the occasion

The Detroit Pistons will have their hands full on Saturday night as they welcome the Golden State Warriors to The Palace of Auburn Hills. However, emotion will be high for the Pistons as they are set to honor one of the greats of their franchise’s recent history in center Ben Wallace, who was a cornerstone for the team in their Finals runs in the mid 2000s. They are set to retire his jersey, but probably could’ve done without the ugly socks that the team will also be wearing.

Continuing their ongoing partnership with the NBA, Stance socks provided the Pistons with a special pair of Ben Wallace socks for each of the Pistons players to wear in honor of the center’s jersey being retired. While some of Stance’s socks featuring all-time greats are pretty awesome, these are less than attractive:

Yikes. While that big blocked-shot really does capture the essence and the value that Wallace had for the Pistons organization, those socks just look pretty terrible. Not to mention that they are going to look insane amounts of weird with Wallace blocking a shot being on the front of every Detroit players’ lower shins.

Regardless of if the socks are a good look or not, it’s great to see them honor Wallace for his contributions. He’s one of the best Cinderella stories in NBA history and, though his numbers aren’t all-time great worthy, he was undeniably great in his time with Detroit.
