DraftKings daily picks: Fantasy hockey lineup – January 17
High Salary W
Patrick Kane-Chicago Blackhawks ($9,000): Coming off a hat trick, Kane is an obvious choice for a target at winger today. He is absolutely having a fantastic season and has been a beast as far as fantasy hockey goes. Kane leads the league in both goals (28) and points (67). Sure, the price tag is sky high, but so is the production. He’s averaging 5.4 fantasy points a game and is a must-start.
Alexander Ovechkin-Washington Capitals ($8,700): The stars are certainly out tonight and Alexander Ovechkin is one of them. He was held off the scoresheet last night but will surely be amped up in a big Eastern Conference home game with the Rangers. Ovechkin had a two-goal game against New York last week and will look to continue that success today. You won’t be able to afford all of the high-priced wingers, but choosing Ovechkin isn’t a bad idea.
Phil Kessel-Pittsburgh Penguins ($6,700): Kessel recorded an assist on Friday night giving him points in five of the last seven games. However, it’s been a slow season for Kessel. With only 25 total points this year he hasn’t provided the level of production that Pittsburgh was hoping for when he was acquired in the offseason. He’s been streaky this year and may be starting to a new hot streak. A good matchup tonight with Carolina makes Kessel a solid winger to target.
High Value W
Jeff Skinner-Carolina Hurricanes ($4,600): Skinner is one of the more streaky players in the league. He’ll go through several games without a point but will then light it up in the next game. He’s got three points in his last two games and is worth taking a chance on tonight against Pittsburgh. The Penguins are ranked 20th against left wingers, setting up the chance for Skinner to find the scoresheet.
Justin Williams-Washington Capitals (4,900): Williams struggled last night in Buffalo but is still a solid daily fantasy target today. He had a three-game point streak before Saturday’s game and is averaging over three fantasy points a game. Today he’ll match up with the Rangers, a team he recorded a goal and an assist against last week. Williams is a top-six player on a great team, making him a top target for your lineup.
Chris Kreider-New York Rangers ($4,100): Kreider has just 20 points for the season but has played well lately with points in two straight games. He scored his seventh goal of the season when he lit the lamp against Philadelphia on Saturday. Kreider wasn’t on the ice when the Rangers hosted the Capitals last week and will look to make his presence felt this time around. His price is low and he has a chance to produce some good numbers. Look to deploy Kreider if you are looking to save some cap space at the winger position.
