High Value PF

Clint Capela-Houston Rockets (5,600): Capela had a double-double last night against the Lakers with 14 points and 11 rebounds in his 23 minutes for a nice 30.75 fantasy points.  With Terrence Jones struggling to score as the offensive part of the platoon at PF, Capela has a pretty firm grasp on his starting spot and should be a solid source of rebounds tonight against the Clippers who don’t have a ton of size up front right now with Blake Griffin injured and DeAndre Jordan battling pneumonia. Capela isn’t usually a offensive threat, but he’s still worth a look in tonight’s limited field.

Amir Johnson-Boston Celtics (5,300): An ankle issue may have cost him a few minutes against the Wizards on Saturday, but it isn’t expected to hold Amir Johnson back tonight against the Mavericks.  Johnson has been playing extremely well in his growing role with Boston and has posted at least 24 fantasy points in seven of his last nine games.  After an 18.25 fantasy point performance on Saturday, some may be ready to jump ship on Johnson, but I’m staying on the bandwagon and think he’ll bounce back with a good game tonight.  The only reason he doesn’t get more stars is that he does have a higher risk than other options and isn’t as much of a value as he was before his price rose over 5K. ∗∗

Tristan Thompson-Cleveland Cavaliers (5,000): Cleveland always relies on T2 against the Warriors to fill the middle and try to slow Golden State down a bit.  He played 27 minutes when the teams played on Christmas (compared to just 14 for then-starter Timofey Mozgov) and finished with ten rebounds and eight points. Thompson moved into the starting lineup after the Christmas game although he has returned to the bench recently.  Thompson has at least 20 fantasy points in three of his last four games and six of his last nine.  Whether coming off the bench or getting the start, I think he’ll be on the floor enough with enough responsibility on the glass to be a solid 5K play tonight.

Patrick Patterson-Toronto Raptors (4,200): Patterson is a solid ultra-cheap play as long as the Raptors don’t play the Wizards.   In two games against Washington, Patterson put up a pair of 1.0-fantasy-point duds while in each of the rest of his last ten games he has at least 15 fantasy points with three games over 26 fantasy points. One of those games came in London where Patterson had 11 points and seven rebounds against the Magic for a very nice 30.25 fantasy points. He’s high-risk, but he does have some potential in a good matchup against Brooklyn tonight.
