High Salary D

Rasmus Ristolainen-Buffalo Sabres ($6,000): Ristolainen is enjoying a fantastic season and has quickly become one of the best fantasy blueliners available. His price tag has risen steadily and he is no longer a sleeper. Although he usually carries a high ownership number, Ristolainen is absolutely a must-own. He registered two assists in Monday’s game and also had a helper in the game previous to that. He’s averaging 3.6 fantasy points a game and has recorded five fantasy points in each of the last two games. Colorado presents a favorable matchup for the young defenseman, so make sure he’s in your lineup.

Kevin Shattenkirk-St. Louis Blues ($6,600): Shattenkirk has turned into a solid fantasy target at defenseman this season. He’s on pace to set a career high in points with 27 through 39 games thus far. He found the back of the net on Monday night and has two points in the last four games. Shattenkirk is averaging 3.7 fantasy points a game and gets a great matchup tonight in Detroit. The Red Wings are currently ranked 26th in points allowed to opposing defensemen.

High Value D

Shea Theodore-Anaheim Ducks (3,000): You’re going to have to find a deep sleeper pick tonight in order to gain points on the competition, and Shea Theodore fits that category. He’s played in just 10 games so far in his NHL career and went pointless in the first seven. However, he’s really come on as of late with a point in each of the last three games. Theodore does present a risk, but it’s one that has the potential to pay off in a big way. At least if he busts you won’t have to pay much.

Mike Green-Detroit Red Wings ($4,500): Green hasn’t been a model of consistency this year but he can be useful at times for fantasy hockey. He didn’t show up on the scoresheet in the last game but notched two assists on January 14. Green is no longer the scoring threat that he was in his younger days in Washington, but when healthy, he’s shown the ability to set up his teammates and help on the offensive end of the ice. Take Green tonight and hope he gets on one of his hot streaks.
