4) The Colorado Rockies Outfielders
The Colorado Rockies have one of the MLB’s most talented hitting outfields. It consists of Carlos Gonzalez, Charlie Blackmon and Corey Dickerson who can all smash the baseball. This meant that finding another outfielder to join them probably wasn’t the biggest priority.
Well, this wasn’t the case, as they went out and signed Gerardo Parra to a 3-year, $26 million deal. He probably won’t be sitting on the bench while making that money, leaving a logjam among Gonzalez, Blackmon, and Dickerson.
It would not be surprising to see one of these players leaving town via trade. It may come down to who is making the most money, which is Gonzalez, who is making $37 million over the next two seasons. A team like the Baltimore Orioles may be able to take him on since they lost Parra. However, money could be an issue with the Chris Davis deal recently going down. Another option could be the St. Louis Cardinals.
Blackmon and Dickerson would come much cheaper in money, but would be costly in talent for a team to give up due to the cash, control, and age.
Whichever player leaves town will also be a loser because Coors Field, the home of the Rockies, is the most hitter-friendly park in the MLB. Hitters always have their stats padded due to the unusual conditions in Denver, CO, and it can lead to big paydays down the line. One of these outfielders will have to go elsewhere and play in a stadium that won’t be as good to hit in as Coors Field, so they may see a dip in stats.
